Capri, Italy (2007)

Capri was a wonderful island full of beauty and winding pathways that you could spend quite some time exploring.  It was also a huge tourist trap and expensive.

Carmel wears capris in Capri.

Capri was full of A) lovely walks and B) Carmel’s clothes.

Our hotel room had a huge balcony with a splendid view.

View from above.

We set out on a boat tour around the island.

Jagged cliffs and eroding caves.

Just chillin’.

It’s a house with a light.

Not too many neighbors in these parts.

Natural arch.

We drove our boat under this arch.

Wee!

The famed Blue Grotto was closed due to rough waters.

But the Green Grotto was super nice.

As was the White Grotto.

A look up into the White Grotto.

In the late afternoon we headed out to climb to the top of the island, but were stopped by a huge parade.  We got the perfect road-side seats to watch the show.

Make way!

Twirler.

These guys would do well at a rave.

Fire!

You spin me right round baby right round.

Elaborate costumes.

Interesting how the archer and the camera chick came out in focus in this shot.  He totally wants to “shoot” her with his “arrow”…

The reason for the festival: Grapes!

Grape ladies.

The kids are amazed by something.

It’s the king and queen!  Or something.

And the Pope!  Apparently he traded in his Pope-mobile for a more fuel-efficient Jewish wedding chupah.

We left Capri in a gas-guzzling open-air taxi.  We’re especially happy because we took a bus to our hotel when we arrived that took 5 times as long.  The bus arrived to pick us up, the driver got out, had a cigarette, talked with some friends, went to get a beer, watched the game on TV, took a nap, then came back an hour later to drive us.  And they wonder why public transportation doesn’t run on time in Italy.

Goodnight Capri!
