Palermo, Italy (2007)

Carmel had a conference in northern Italy so we flew in to southern Italy, naturally.  First stop was Palermo on Sicily.

Okay first of all this was the weather in England on our way to the airport.

Blending of 2 cultures as we board the airplane: Right—The Brits form an orderly queue; Left—the Italians all cram to get on first.

We walked around many of the winding streets.

Shiny new Smart Cars park in front of deteriorating old buildings.

Old castles and ruins.

The post office.

Oratorio del Rosario di San Domenico.

A fountain.

Palermo is known for its sleeping dogs.

We wandered around the streets until we came around a corner and suddenly this giant cathedral appeared in front of us.

In front of the Cathedral.  Remember the weather in England?  We’ve forgotten all about that.

Carmel studies the great book (of Italy tourism).

It ain’t small.

An arch connects the Cathedral to the next block.

Further down the street, another arch connects to the Palace dei Normanni.

Atop the San Giovanni degli Eremiti (which was under construction and not that interesting) we had a good view of the Cathedral.

Mmm Sicilian food.

Goodbye Palermo!
